If you live in a cool climate, air moisture can work through the drywall and collect in the fiberglass, causing mold and mildew problems. The vapor barrier is designed to keep moisture out of insulation and should be on the warm “conditioned” side in cool to cold climates. Along those same lines, no more than one vapor barrier should be used in a wall or ceiling (traps moisture).
